Evaluation¶
In order to address the evaluation of cell detection performance, we defined a hit criterion by considering a circular area of radius r=4 µm (16 pixels) centered on each manually annotated cell location as a valid region for the detection of that specific lymphocyte. The value of r was established based on the typical radius of lymphocytes. If a detected cell is at a valid distance from the reference standard, it is counted as a true positive, otherwise, it is counted as a false positive. If a manually annotated cell was not detected, it was regarded as a false negative. Based on these criteria, the F1-score metric is computed.
